SpeakIQ Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 2, 2026 Last updated: September 7, 2026

SpeakIQ ("we," "us") provides an AI-powered public speaking coach. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the SpeakIQ mobile app and API.

1. Information we collect

Account information. Email address, display name, and optional profile photo, via Firebase Authentication. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the name and email those providers share.

Practice recordings (audio and video). When you start a practice session, we record your voice and, with your permission, front-camera video. Recordings are uploaded to our servers to generate your feedback.

Data derived from recordings.

Coach conversations. Messages you send to the AI coach, and summaries of your past sessions used to personalize its replies.

Usage and progress data. Scores, streaks, XP, badges, challenge progress, and app settings.

Device data. Basic diagnostics (app version, device model, crash logs). Anonymous usage analytics are collected only if you opt in in Settings.

2. How we use your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your recordings, transcripts, or biometric measurements for advertising.

3. AI processing and service providers

Your recordings and transcripts are processed by third-party AI providers acting as our processors:

Provider Purpose
Groq (GroqCloud) Speech-to-text (whisper-large-v3) and coaching feedback (openai/gpt-oss-120b). Under Groq's Services Agreement, Groq is not permitted to use inputs or outputs to train or fine-tune any models, and by default does not retain customer data for inference requests.
Google Firebase Authentication
Supabase Database: account details, session metadata, transcripts, and analyses (United States, us-east-1)
Fly.io Application hosting and encrypted volume storage for practice recordings (United States, Ashburn, Virginia)

Video analysis (eye contact, posture) runs on our own servers; video frames are never sent to any third-party AI provider.

The live words-per-minute and filler-word counters shown while you are recording are produced by your device's own offline speech recognition. That live transcription stays on your phone and is never transmitted to us or to any third party. If your device cannot transcribe offline, the live counters are simply not shown.

4. Retention and deletion

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict processing of your data, and to withdraw consent. Exercise them in-app (account deletion, analytics opt-out) or by emailing privacy@speakiqapp.com. We respond within 30 days and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

California residents: we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as defined by the CPRA.

6. Consent for camera, microphone, and biometric-derived data

Recording starts only when you press Start Practice, and requires the operating-system camera/microphone permissions. Before your first video-analyzed session we ask for explicit consent to derive body-language measurements from your video. You can revoke permissions in system settings at any time; audio-only practice remains available without the camera.

7. Children

SpeakIQ is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact privacy@speakiqapp.com and we will delete it.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production systems is restricted and logged. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify you and regulators of a breach as required by law.

9. International transfers

Our servers are located in the United States (Ashburn, Virginia). Our database provider (Supabase, us-east-1) and our AI processing provider (Groq) also process data in the United States. Where data is transferred across borders we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Changes

We will notify you in-app of material changes and update the date above. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
